To Develop animal husbandry as a small scale industry is one of the priorities of the present
government. It is very important to give priority to poultry development in the field of animal
husbandry, because at present 1.60 crore eggs are being produced daily in the state, while 2.50
crore eggs are consumed daily, to meet this gap about 90 lakh eggs are being imported from the
other states. With increase in population of the state, the demand for eggs is also increasing
continuously. Similarly, to meet the requirement of broiler meat, about 15 crore day old broiler
chicks are imported every year from other states.
Uttar Pradesh Poultry Development Policy-2022 is being proposed with a view to make the state
self-reliant and export-oriented by filling the gap in availability relative to demand in poultry
products. Under the said policy, in the next five years, to establish layer farms to produce 190 lakh
eggs per day and setting up of a broiler parent farm for the production of 172 lakh broiler chicks
per year is targeted. This scheme will be helpful in achieving the target of Trillion Dollar Economy
of Uttar Pradesh government and will also create employment opportunities in the primary
sector. This policy will be effective upto five years from the date of promulgation.
The State is moving towards becoming self sufficient in the field of egg production and broiler chicks
production by the schemes of commercial layer farms, broiler parent farms and backyard poultry scheme.
Through this employment generation is being created in rural areas alongwith making broiler production
more profitable. The availability of organic manure for agricultural production is being encouraged and the
availability of protein in food material is being ensured.
Apart from above schemes the State Govt. runs Backyard Poultry Scheme for Schedule Caste
beneficiary to encourage poultry rearing. The main aim of Backyard Poultry Scheme is to produce
eggs and poultry meat to improve nutrients (protein) in food of weaker section and self employment.
